Leaving Us Empowered
Christ accomplished everything He set out to do on earth before returning to Heaven to sit at the Father’s right hand. Upon His ascension, He didn’t take all of the ability and power for victorious life with Him. He empowered us and equipped us with the things we would need to carry out our mission. He set us up for success so we could overcome as He did.
Christ started by teaching us through the example of His life and ministry. John 5:19 shows us how Jesus operated, “So Jesus explained, ‘I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.’” By learning from His method, we can know we are doing God’s will when we do what we see God doing and listen to what He is commanding us to do.
Jesus also requested that the third part of the Godhead be sent to us so we can walk in complete connection with God. John 14:15-17 says, “’If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. ‘” The Holy Spirit guides us so that we can walk in obedience to what God has ordained for us. Those who do not utilize the Holy Spirit in His full authority are using only a fragment of the opportunity sent after Jesus.
Jesus went on in John 14:27 to leave us with another empowerment, “’I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” Jesus gave us heart and peace that we could be bold in ministering forth the work of the Kingdom. Living for God was never promised to be easy, but we can take heart in the peace that Jesus left us.
Finally, Christ left us with was a promise. In John 14:12 Jesus said, “’I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.’” Jesus left us with the things necessary to accomplish our mission, so that we can hear “Well done” from our Father when we too join Him in Heaven.
