I recently visited a familiar scripture and I saw a unique side of it that I had never seen before:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 NIV
And I thought, “What if the devil succeeds, and steals from and kills us? What does he have left to destroy?” And my immediate thought went toward the others around us, because when the devil’s attacks become not only spiritually evident but physically evident, it becomes noticeable to others around us and affects them.
While positions of leadership are very influential, you don’t have to hold an official title to be a leader or affect others around you. So to think that you don’t have influence on other people would be a myth; which leads me to the point that while the enemy may have his attacks aimed directly at you, his target is never just one person. His objective is to bring you down, as well as others around you.
We also see that Jesus came “…that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Let’s make one thing clear: Jesus overcame everything on the cross that would ever need overcoming. Period. But oftentimes we still find ourselves struggling. Part of it is life, and life happens. Then there’s times where we bring it on ourselves, reviving the very thing Jesus came to defeat with the breath he gave to us. Yet, He knew that we would bring affliction upon ourselves, and He is wanting, more than we want Him to, to suffocate it.
Know that the enemy is not the only one who desires you; where there is evil and darkness, there is light and goodness. There’s never a villain without a superHERO: JESUS. The enemy has come to drain your potential from you and others around, eventually leading you to a spiritual dehydration taking you down the wrong path. Jesus on the other has come to help you strive for your potential in Him, to allow you to lead others that through Him, they as well may reach their potential. The mark you make is up to.
